In the days leading up to the release of the new Apple iPhone, I spoke to the media several times about the new device and version 2.0's enterprise functionality. In a couple of radio interviews on July 10 and 11, I was asked, “Are you going to rush out and get one of these things?” My response was, “Maybe when the hype dies down a little, but I'm sure not standing in line for one.” I was very happy with my Windows Mobile-based HTC Touch, thank you very much.
But Then Something Happened
I had a request to speak to a journalist about the new iPhone and how Wi-Fi worked on the device a few days after launch day. I did some research and discovered that the iPhone should seamlessly connect to trusted Wi-Fi networks when they are available, and the Wi-Fi connection should be preferred over the carrier's 3G network.
