Xandros Linux for the Small Enterprise?

Author(s): Vince Londini

Xandros offers enterprise-grade server and desktop platforms based on Debian. The 2007 acquisition of Scalix e-mail and the soon-to-be-launched BridgeWays cross-platform management suite position Xandros to accelerate growth.

Further highlights from this note include:

  • 27% of enterprises with fewer than 500 employees use Linux.
  • Xandros has a technology agreement with Microsoft, strengthening its ability to offer Windows interoperability.
  • Xandros brings Windows-like functionality to the small to mid-sized enterprise (SME) server room or desktop Linux deployment.

SMEs are encouraged to consider Xandros Linux when looking to maximize Windows desktop familiarity. Xandros Server is trying to gain market share by bundling with application solution-stacks and management tools. However, both approaches are still immature and face stiff competition.
