A week or so before launching the recognition current state assessment (be it interviews, a pulse survey, or a full engagement survey), you should email your staff to explain why you are assessing recognition, describe the assessment process, and lay out next steps. The email should address:

  • The need for a recognition assessment.
  • The type of assessment being used.
  • The value in the staff’s opinion.
  • The next steps, including analysis and recognition adjustments to suit results.

You should use an enthusiastic tone in your email to highlight the fact that recognition should be an enjoyable, positive activity. Your email should convey the fact that you and your management team take recognition very seriously and need the staff to help you better the IT department.
