(By Info-Tech Analyst Vince Londini - Printed with permission from Processor Magazine www.processor.com).

How difficult is it to choose an enterprise-grade Linux vendor? Each vendor brings a list of talking points, slight technical differentiations, or specific marketing emphasis. But when you consider that a wide variety of enterprises use each of the major Linux distributions successfully, you see my point. The real answer lies in relationship, not technical superiority.

What about SELinux vs. AppArmor? ext3 vs. RFS? Management platform A vs. platform B? User-interface X vs. interface Y? Size/profitability/experience of Company A vs. Company B vs. Company C? They don't matter. What matters is whether the vendor and its VARs will meet your needs and whether the business has advantageous pricing terms arising from existing agreements.
