About two and half years ago, Info-Tech authored a note entitled “Enough with the Stolen Laptops Already!” It posited that the theft of laptops, and with them confidential data records, was on the rise and that something needed to be done. Since that time, not only has the problem not gotten better, it has definitively gotten worse.

How Much Really Goes Missing?

The annual CSI/FBI Computer Crime and Security Survey shows that, from 2005 onwards, the percentage of organizations that indicate they have experienced laptop theft hovers right around 50. Or in simpler terms, half of all respondents indicate they have experienced at least one incident of laptop theft.
