With the changing Business Intelligence (BI) market, your organization needs to know what BI can do for it, and how it can succeed with a BI platform:
- BI solutions are still constrained by data quality issues as the volume of data explodes and user appetite grows. IT departments need to ensure continual data quality as BI increases its role in decision making.
- Business Intelligence Competency Centers (BICC) are needed, whether they are formal organizational units or virtualized staff assignments. BI needs people behind it for support, training, custom development, and executive leadership.
- BI is no longer a separate set of computing systems. Successful BI programs are distributing their insights to the users where they work, in core transaction systems, e-mail, intranets, and on mobile devices.
- BI systems are faster and easier to use. IT departments need to push forward with their BI programs, but not abandon the requirements for rigor (support, training, quality assurance, data quality, etc.).
