When addressing the issue of how best to deal with spam, enterprises can choose one of two architectures. They can implement an in-house solution, managing spam at the network gateway or they can outsource the solution to a third-party provider. For most, outsourcing will be the better option.
Spam, Spam Everywhere, but Not a Bite to Eat
The latest Internet Security Threat Report (ISTR XIII) from Symantec shows that spam now outstrips valid e-mail by greater than a two to one ratio. Over the last several years, the percentage of e-mail that is spam has hovered around 60%. In the latter half of 2007, it jumped to 70%. Info-Tech sees no reason why this trend should reverse, and expects continued steady growth in the future. Spam is a problem that is with us to stay.
