As network technology continues to deliver faster data transmission speeds, business users become less tolerant of poor application performance, regardless of the reason. As a result, performance management is critical and network organizations must do everything in their power to keep it optimized. This research note discusses three reasons why performance management is a critical support area:
- As data rates increase, acceptable problem resolution times decrease.
- End-to-end transmission paths are growing more complex.
- User environments continue to stress network performance.
Although fault management is important, the ability to proactively maintain service levels and identify potential problem situations before they impact end-to-end business application service levels makes performance management a priority focus.
