Not all projects go according to plan – there are many things that can (and often do) go wrong. Even if it feels like nothing good can come of it, being able to turn failure into future success can gain the IT manager the admiration of their team, their peers, and more importantly their boss. Turn failure into something positive by learning what went wrong and ensuring that the same mistakes are not repeated.
How Can Failure Help You Succeed?
There are many times when managers are tempted to ignore failure:
- The work culture is strongly outcome-based, and failure is hidden to avoid punishment.
- The organization's survival is at risk and focusing on the negatives may decrease team morale.
- Managers believe there is no time to focus on mistakes or that there are far too many other things going on.
