Embarcadero Technologies Inc., a privately held company specializing in database tools, acquired CodeGear from Borland in June, 2008. The acquisition brings two companies together that share a similar focus on development tools, with Embarcadero focusing on the database back end and CodeGear on the user-facing front end. Incorporated in 1993, Embarcadero has $60 million in sales and 270 employees.
Shortly before the acquisition, in May 2008, CodeGear released Delphi for PHP 2.0, a rapid application development (RAD) tool for PHP scripting that aims to increase developer productivity and is heavily focused on reusability. Some key points to note on Delphi for PHP include the following:
