The days of a purely technical CIO role are numbered. As a term, “alignment” is not likely to go away. But real success requires more than aligning separate perspectives. It requires adopting a mindset of integration and acting, thinking, and planning as a business leader who happens to have IT responsibility, not an IT leader who is trying to align IT to the business.
