Disaster Recovery Planning at Its Best

At Olympic Memorial Hospital we have our expected growth that we try to manage with our current projects, then we have the standard “come as it may” emergencies that poke their heads up along the road. Combining those with more unannounced, unexpected work we look like all the other IT shops out there, struggling to keep our network and resources above the flood line.  Faced with the aspect of having to develop and implement a Disaster Recovery Plan we were immensely pleased with the product that InfoTech handed us.  This was reviewed to see if it would address all aspects of our IT department's responsibilities in a disaster. Although it was not specific to OMC's structure it was more than enough for us to adapt. The delivery was a logical choice. Web based and PowerPoint driven, this Disaster Recovery plan had an easy to follow plan on how to start, stop and measure. The provided examples gave us enough of a lead so that we could see what was being asked of us. The level of communication that came from the Infotech representatives also gave us that extra hand with understanding certain areas that didn't always pertain to us.

Without the in-depth structure of InfoTech's Disaster Recovery Plan it would have easily taken us 6 months just to formalize on what was needed to be incorporated into our DRP much less have gotten started on it. While we are only through 1/3 of the report and hope to have it finalized before April of next year.

InfoTech's DRP is not the first InfoTech template policy that this hospital has put to use. It remains one of our trusted resources for concise and efficient template policies, saving us time and money. Both of which can be used in other areas of our department.

Building a Comprehensive Disaster Recovery Plan provided all the information we needed to assess and enhance our own internal model. The manual walked us through the process and helped identify some weaknesses that might not have come to light otherwise. The templates saved us the effort of designing our own, and made sure we concentrated on the core task. All in all this has been a very sound investment. Of course, because we now have the material, we can refer back to it at any time to review some of or our entire plan.
