Published: April 08, 2008

In Info-Tech’s recent study on adoption of technology solutions, 53% of healthcare organizations responded that they are currently planning, implementing, or using SharePoint or an equivalent solution. The following case study is based on the experiences of one representative organization.

Implementation Profile

The study participant is a regional healthcare insurer in the United States. The organization has 5,500 employees across the country, of which 600 are IT staff. All of the 5,500 employees have access to SharePoint. The version of choice is Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) 3.0, which IT selected for its document management capabilities.

The organization first implemented WSS in late 2006, using it to replace the legacy file server system. The organization plans to eventually expand the implementation to include more collaboration features and incorporate forms automation.
