Enterprises are exploring the productivity advantages of enterprise applications. Many of them, particularly the smaller ones, lack the necessary data center experience to host and maintain a mission critical application and so turn to outsourced hosting providers. Amend the application Request for Proposal (RFP) to ensure that the outsourcer can deliver the goods.
These recommendations are most appropriate for enterprises that elect to use an outsourced hosting provider for their applications (i.e., a single tenancy model). They are less important for enterprises considering Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) models of application delivery (i.e., multi-tenancy model). For more information on the differences between these two delivery models, refer to the McLean Report research notes, “SaaS Still a Mystery to Many IT Professionals” and “Sassy SaaS Isn’t Always Sexy: Avoid These Six Traps.”
