As a result of increasing regulatory pressure, enterprises are put in the position of ensuring they aren’t doing business with terrorists. Whether the end result is to ensure that terrorists aren’t being supplied through product sales, funded through investment activities, or protected through money laundering, the requirements are broad. As a result of an Info-Tech case-study review with a number of CIOs, it is clear that significant confusion exists around this topic for most IT organizations.

Watchlists, Watchlists Everywhere

The number of terrorist watchlists, essentially non-existent prior to the WTC attacks of September 11th, 2001, has rapidly increased to the point that over 20 now exist. Further, as a result of Homeland Security Presidential Directive 6, a master list amalgamating all this data has been established. The Terrorist Screening Database (TSDB) is maintained by the Terrorist Screening Center (TSC), a division of the FBI.
