Faced with a rising number of point-of-sale (POS) products on the market, restaurant IT managers often have difficulty separating must-have functions from nice-to-have capabilities.

Top Five Functions

Hospitality Technology Magazine recently completed a study on IT trends in the restaurant industry, gathering data on over 170,000 establishments. One of the topic areas covered was POS functions and features. The five functions shown in Figure 1 received the highest importance ranking from survey respondents.

While all five functions are critical components in a POS system, restaurant IT managers should adjust the prioritization to suit their own situation.
