Business Intelligence (BI) continues to attract attention from executives, particularly in the mid-market. BI is now a mature technology and many IT leaders are exploring ways to optimize their investment. One of the most common complaints about the technology is that is too expensive. Follow Info-Tech’s advice to minimize the BI burden.

Maintenance is Painful

BI can be a complicated technology. It integrates data from a variety of enterprise systems and parses it to inform and guide end users. This process involves both technological and process sophistication that leads to long implementation times and poor user acceptance.

From a budget perspective, upfront licensing for BI is expensive, annual maintenance is expensive, implementation times are long, and, since users often don’t exploit the technology, the financial return is somewhat dubious. This perfect storm of complications leads many IT leaders to explore ways of limiting the financial impact of their BI implementations.
