Info-Tech recently spoke to 20 clients about their LAN refreshes. One of the significant discoveries was that companies rarely refresh the LAN infrastructure on a regular cycle. Unlike PCs or servers that are more likely to be refreshed on a 3-4 year cycle, LAN infrastructure is most often upgraded as a result of one or more business or technology drivers. Understanding when it is appropriate to pull the trigger on a LAN refresh can extend the life of the existing infrastructure, saving the company time and money.

If the company is moving toward a centrally managed corporate network, it is likely that it will be necessary to implement a common platform across all locations. The common platform will be easier to administer and manage than a mish-mash of LAN platforms.
