Successfully setting up a Project Management Office (PMO) depends on how well the enterprise can match the services offered with the resources allocated. Enterprises with a limited budget should restrict PMO services to a consultative model.

Senior Management Approval

Before an organization can proceed with a PMO, senior management must approve it and it must have at least one key sponsor. In cases where the PMO has minimal senior management support, begin with a tightly focused service scope. Secure further buy-in over time with a few strategic project wins.

Service Scope Options

The services the new PMO will offer are predicated on the resources allocated to it. The three types of PMO service models are:
