Just as investments in home remodeling (think extravagant kitchens and bathrooms) often fail to provide a meaningful return on investment, so it is often with investments in higher quality IT infrastructure components. IT Managers are always under pressure to reduce costs in order to fund new initiatives or to meet cost-reduction targets. They should take action to avoid overspending on component parts of their computer systems. High reliability storage, for example, will provide little value if matched with servers or network connections of lower reliability.
