Top Five Application Development Myths

Myth # 1: Process Is Not Important
The quest for the perfect process to universally apply across software development has gone on for at least a decade. Not surprisingly, it remains elusive. The diversity of software development teams, environments, and technologies means that the needs for each project are unique.

A large percentage of application development projects end up over budget or delivered late because of a lack of planning up front. Good processes help meet client expectations consistently.

Recommendations:

  • Communicate the importance of following good processes to the development team.
  • Develop an effective plan. Whether the plan is simple or complex, remember to make it comprehensive, realistic, and trackable.
  • Manage the plan; don’t just report progress. Take action to overcome challenges; don’t accept excuses.
