Red Hat Enterprise Linux Adoption Patterns

Info-Tech Advisor: Research Note

Enterprises looking to reduce vendor lock-in or negotiate operating system costs should investigate Red Hat. Red Hat’s operating system product starts with the open source Linux operating system code and adds value in the form of enterprise-grade hardware and software testing, certification, and support. Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) has gained traction in large enterprises and small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) to support a number of critical workloads.

Where Is RHEL Working?

Red Hat’s strongest industry markets are the Financial Services, Hi-Tech, and Government segments. Healthcare, Oil/Gas, and Telecommunications also reflect significant components of the client-base. RHEL is available through direct sales, Web site sales, and resold through Value Added Resellers (VARs). Red Hat regularly displaces Solaris and Windows on given servers within existing data centers. Further, RHEL appeals to the mid-market in greenfield deployments.
