Most IT departments provide some support to employees who occasionally work at home. However, when a material number of staff work from home full-time, standard IT service approaches and tools will likely be inadequate. Consequently, IT should evaluate and enhance the infrastructure, training, tools, and support to maximize the productivity of all enterprise employees who work from home.
Am I Connected?
The first priority for IT is to provide employees working at home with reliable and secure access to the enterprise applications they require to do their job. Often, IT provides some services for employees who occasionally work at home, for example, e-mail. However, teleworkers need access to all of the systems that they would use at the office, not just some services. IT must ensure that this access is reliably available and secure, with an adequate transaction response time.
