Alcatel-Lucent Puts the Lockdown on Laptop Thieves

Alcatel-Lucent has recently announced the OmniAccess 3500 Nonstop Laptop Guardian, a comprehensive, PC card-based laptop security solution designed to aggressively combat the threats posed by laptop theft. Beyond remote policy enforcement, the complexity built into the device allows it to support powerful additional functions, including backup and patch management and GPS-based location detection – even when the laptop is powered off.

The fact that the cost due to laptop theft extends far beyond the cost of the laptop itself is self-evident. Lost or stolen laptops represent a massive risk to enterprise privacy and security, with the potential to release sensitive stored data to unauthorized parties and to open the enterprise’s corporate network resources to malicious outsiders.
