The debate of which platform is better, Java or .NET, was at its zenith between 2001 and 2003. Although a lot has changed in the last four years, the debate still smolders in many IT shops. IT decision makers are still asking which direction they should take for their application platform. While these platforms are different at their core, IT executives should give this fact little weight in their final analysis.

IT leaders in many small and mid-sized enterprises are ambivalent when it comes to selecting an enterprise computing platform. In an attempt to come to a decision between Java and .NET, technically-savvy IT managers tend to focus on the features and functionality each platform brings to the table.
