As the use of social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, and YouTube become pervasive in the enterprise environment, IT managers are forced to decide if or how the use of the sites should be allowed. The fact is that, typically, social networking is not business related. Employees predominantly use the sites to keep up with the personal activities of friends and co-workers, not productive business activities.
Social Networking Friend
Social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, and YouTube are great for keeping in touch with your friends and acquaintances and seeing what they’re up to. These sites are not typically used for carrying out business related functions. Allowing employees to access these sites may be good for morale, but may not be good for the business. Aside from being time wasters, these sites can inflict a significant burden on the enterprise network and DNS infrastructure.
