Dam Document Metadata by Closing the Security Breach

Info-Tech Advisor: Research Note

Published: September 18, 2007

  Data About Data

Metadata describes how, when, and by whom a particular set of data is created, collected, and formatted. Every time a Microsoft Office document is created, revised, or saved to a local or networked drive, metadata is automatically added to it.

Other formats, such as portable document format (PDF) files also can contain metadata. Publishing to PDF does not mitigate all office metadata risk.
