When key computer-based systems are unavailable some part of the business stops. Clients may turn away or employees may become unproductive. Minimizing service down time is a key objective for all enterprises. When IT departments plan their services to achieve high availability, they typically focus on processes and infrastructure that reduce the likelihood of a service outage. However rarely systems fail, fail they will. Therefore, reducing the duration of an outage becomes the next challenge.
