SSIS: SQL Server’s Secret Weapon

Microsoft’s SQL Server 2005 Integration Services (SSIS) are a platform of tools for exporting data from databases to other locations, allowing for the centralization of data from various sources. Apart from warehousing capabilities and functions, SSIS handles a host of other data-movement tasks.

DTS Tasks

Data Transformation Services (DTS) were originally built into SQL Server 7.0. These new tools were readily accepted by the IT community, allowing SQL server developers and database administrators to improve productivity by automating data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) tasks. DTS tools released with SQL Server 2000 proved to be even more robust, including such tasks as:

  • Dynamic Properties: Allows users to modify package properties without querying for parameter values.
