Hunting Down Media Files

Info-Tech Advisor: Research Note

Published: August 21, 2007

Nearly every company produces or requires some form of multimedia, be it audio, video, or graphic images. Retrieving multimedia items isn’t nearly as easy as text-based files, and some users commit the sin of copyright infringement. If mitigating copyright infringement liability is important to the business, consider using specialized media tools.

Who Uses Media?

While IT may not need to track media files for itself, IT’s advice and help on this matter is invaluable to those individuals who create and use multimedia as part of their job. Different departments use or create different types of media in different ways:

  • Call centers/help desks (voice recordings/call recordings).
  • Human resources (employee photos, training videos).
  • Management (meeting recordings, images for PowerPoint).
  • Marketing (graphic images, multimedia presentations).
