Lawsuit Takes Aim at Target

The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) has filed a class action suit against Target Corp., alleging breach of the Americans with Disabilities Act and two state statutes. The plaintiffs cite a number of barriers to accessibility in the Target.com Web site:

  • Images lack alternative text for screen readers.
  • Purchases can only be completed using a mouse.
  • No text-based alternatives are provided for image maps.

Target initially filed a motion for dismissal, which has been denied by the federal district court judge.
