How to Build a Secure FTP Server

There are a wide range of options available for deploying an FTP server, and most enterprises already have the infrastructure and software necessary to do so. For instance, Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) has built in FTP server capabilities that can be enabled on any of the server platforms back to NT 4.0. This feature is even available in Windows XP Professional. However, IIS FTP will not support a truly secure deployment as existing versions do not have the ability to encrypt authentication credentials and data.
