Autodialers: Getting the Word Out in an Emergency

Disaster recovery and business continuity planning are important for any organization. Equally important is the need to quickly notify customers, citizens, students, and other stakeholders if and when an emergency occurs. Exercise proper emergency preparedness by utilizing autodialers for rapid notification.

Applications for Autodialers

Autodialers support Disaster Recovery Planning (DRP) and emergency notification goals by delivering voice messages to all the telephone numbers entered into the autodialing system. These autodialers, like the name implies, dial a predefined set of telephone numbers and play a recorded message to each and every one of the numbers when they are picked up (either by a person or an answering machine/service). Autodialing solutions usually come in the form of software packages that hook into PBX or VoIP systems, and also to CRM systems (if the enterprise has one).

There are many reasons why the organization would notify constituents of a current or impending emergency. Criminal activity, natural disasters (e.g. floods or hurricanes), biological threats (e.g. toxic spills, virus outbreaks), and other critical situations create the need to disseminate important bulletins to affected people. Some applications of autodialers include:
