Enterprises that fail to keep their public Web sites current risk losing customers to more up-to-date competitors. According to a Stanford University study on Web site credibility, users often judge a site based on currency of information. If customers can tell that a Web site has not been updated regularly, they will lose confidence in the site's owner and opt for an alternative.

Risk of Misinformation

In addition to losing credibility, stale Web sites risk providing users with outdated information. If the site lists products or services that are no longer available, customers will feel that they have been misled. If the site contains health or safety information that is no longer accurate, litigation may ensue.
