IT departments that manage changes to their IT environment in an informal way expose their company to major business disruptions, project delays, and poor utilization of IT resources. Implement a formal change management process to reduce the risk.

Symptoms of Poor IT Change Management

IT managers of enterprises experiencing the following symptoms need a formal change management process:

  • Increases in the number of incidents in the production environments.
  • IT priorities to work on changes are decided in a disorganized and inconsistent manner. For example, developers' priorities are based on request date or on how much power the requester has in the enterprise.
  • Users are contacting implementers (e.g. developers) directly and explaining their requirements verbally. There is not a consistent mechanism to capture change requests and nobody is performing an assessment and prioritization process for the request.
