Microsoft OneNote Fails to Strike a Chord

Microsoft has announced that it has updated OneNote along with the rest of the new Office suite. Never heard of OneNote? That's not surprising. It's a nice tool, but not a necessity for most enterprise users.

Shifting Targets

Microsoft is trying to extend OneNote usage beyond the academic market into the enterprise world. OneNote team founder Chris Pratley insists that the latest version has "grown up and become a tool for teams to use in business settings." As Microsoft continues to promote its new crop of Office applications, IT leaders may soon be receiving more requests from business units to have OneNote installed on their PCs.

So, What Is OneNote?

According to the Microsoft Office Online product FAQ, OneNote is a "digital notebook." More specifically, it's "a single space for gathering information that follows the metaphor of a paper-based notebook." So this software makes notebook PCs more notebook-like – not the most convincing argument...
