USB-Based Password Management a Flawed Solution

Password management software stores login information so that it doesn't have to be retyped by the user. USB-based versions have been touted as a way to safely use computers in public areas. Unfortunately, the USB-based versions of these applications are flawed and can create unwanted security and data recovery problems.

Password Management Strengthens Passwords

Password management software, such as RoboForm allows users to fill in fields on forms and log into Web sites without typing any actual information. With the use of a master key, users are authenticated and granted access to all previously recorded login and password information.

The biggest benefit of password management software is that physical typing of the actual login and password is not involved, thus preventing malicious keylogging software from pilfering important information. Additionally, since users don't actually have to memorize the passwords themselves, they can use much longer and complicated passwords that are stronger...
